Question: How do I assign more than one sound to a preset?

Start with a preset that does what you want it to. In the back of the manual, you'll be able to read through the descriptions of each factory preset to see which is closest to what you need. If you wanted to make a fret split, for example, the FS presets are what you'd be interested in. Now, here's where it gets a bit more tricky, but not too bad. The manual is actually a very well-written one with one or two glaring gaps. One of these is how to find the edit page you want. Here's what you do:

To make this tutorial easier, I'm going to pick a specific patch. Go to patch 172 on the Axon. Push EDIT once. Push ENTER twice. You're now looking at Fret split area #1 from open string up to 7th fret. It is currently set to patch #27. Change to the patch # you want. To set other parameters for this patch like volume, transpose, etc. simply hit the PARAMETER + button to scroll through the different parameters.

When finished setting parameters, push EXIT twice and you should see

EDIT..

with a picture of the fretboard and three pickups.

This is the page where you choose the other regions of the preset. Now simply hit the VALUE+. Each time you hit this button it will go to another region of the preset. In this case, there are only two regions, below the 7th fret and above the 7th fret. Notice each time you hit the VALUE+ button, it toggles back and forth between the two regions.

Once you have chosen the other region, hit ENTER twice again. This brings you back to the same kind of page we were at before, but this time it is for the region above the 7th fret. Notice the patch is #31. Again, change parameters to your heart's content.

When finished, hit EXIT three times until the STORE button is flashing.

Now we must decide where to store the patch. Normally if this weren't a factory preset which is SACRED and untouchable and MUST NEVER be MESSED with (and therefore can't be changed and saved to the same preset#), we could simply .....

Press STORE once and then ENTER once. And then you are done.

In this case, hit STORE once and it asks what preset# to store it in. If you like the number it suggests, just hit ENTER. If you want to save it to another preset #, then hit VALUE+ or VALUE- to find the preset# where you would like to store your brand-spanking new preset.

And that's er..., um all there is to -- er, ...it. Of course, you're a lot older and wiser now, there's a new president in the White House, your kids have grown up and graduated, and you'll need to replace the batteries in all your equipment...but, by gumbo, you've got your very own preset. Congrats.
